New Jersey stands apart from every other state: 1,185 of its 2,222 gas stations, 53%, have no convenience store, the only state where stations without one outnumber those with one. Alaska is a distant second at 31%.
North Dakota and Oregon are tied at 29%, followed by Massachusetts at 27%. Nationally, only about 12% of gas stations lack a convenience store, making all ten of these states well above average.
